I'm Thanh. I write about things I find interesting — movies, work, fashion, the movement of ideas between worlds that don't usually talk to each other.

Currently based between Hanoi and wherever else feels worth staying.

What I do

I run Arrowster, where we work on growth for software companies. Before that I spent time in consulting, in-house strategy, and a few things that didn't have good names at the time.

Writing is the other thing. This site is the personal side of that — less polished, more honest.

What I read

Mostly non-fiction and long-form essays. I have a weak spot for books that sit at the edge of two fields — economics and fashion, anthropology and tech, history and strategy.

Fiction occasionally. Poetry almost never, which I suspect is a character flaw.

What I think

Some things I believe strongly enough to write down:

  • Most institutions are optimising for the wrong thing and the people inside them know it.
  • Good taste is learnable but only by people willing to be bad at things first.
  • The best writing is thinking out loud — not performing intelligence, but doing it.
  • I am probably wrong about at least one of the above.
